My summary from Stig Bengmarks lecture will come soon. But I found this article that he wrote in Läkartidningen 2007 where he explains the AGE/ALE - why they are bad, in what foods they are and what diseases they can bring. It is extremly interesting and I would advice you all to read it. If you don't understand swedish, then use google translate.

I have also wanted for while now to write about cholesterol and also turmeric, so that will come soon!

Best run in a half year
Feels so great to be back running! 17km done today - or 10,5 miles! It's starting to get colder though and I'm still a bit sick of treadmills so we'll see how long it lasts..

Stig Bengmarks lecture - a summary will come soon
Me, dad and a friend to our family went up north today to listen to an extremly good doctor (Stig Bengmark) who know a lot about nutrition and what the food does in our bodies. He is 82 years old and has since he retired 1994 kept himself well updated by spending hours every day looking at new research. He is doing a lot of things for a university in London and live there b
ecause of that. Even though he is 82, I would say he look like 65. He really practice what he teach.
What I like about him is that he has so much knowledge and in his teaching he shows studies after studies after studies. I like that because I think so many people has so many different opinions about nutrition without an education and without actually knowing what they are speaking about. They hear things somewhere, and use it.. Even if the things they hear has no real scientific basis.
Nutrition is very complicated and I'm starting to understand that more and more now when I study it.
My question is then, how can normal people who doesn't have a passion about nutrition still get passionated enough to start caring about what they eat? I want to teach in these things in the future and this is one question I'm thinking about a lot.. What would actually make a difference in a persons food habits? I believe there are many aspects but one is defently that people don't have enough knowledge about it.
Lets say a person knows that fish is good.. But the person will still not eat it because he/she isn't motivated enough yet. If someone explained the chemistry and the physiology behind why it's good, maybe he/she would really understand why and therefor get motivated? I think that could help a lot. I know myself that when I hear the real reasons why something is healthy, then I get really motivated to eat that. Or avoid something if I know what it's actually doing to me.
If you have any suggestions on how to do all of this then please tell me.
Stig showed many studies today. He had a powerpoint on about 300 pages. I think they said they will post it all on a website so if I find it, Ill let you know. It was hard to write down everything I wanted because it was going pretty fast but I will still give you a small summary in a day or so.
After his lecture - another guy had a lecture about music and health.. or something like that. I don't know how it happened but all of a sudden dad was standing in a choir singing... He really wants me to blog about him so here is a picture of him - in the choir.
Now to a totally other thing. The picture above is a picture of one of our pastors when he was much younger, or formers pastors as he has now started a church. I found it hidden in my sisters room. I believe it looks much better on t her wall like that right? Nice sticker too :D
We have been away the whole day so I'm tired and going to bed. Tomorrow the kids on the street are coming over to bake! Probably need to buy some sugar... Good night!

Updates plus summary on vitamin D lecture from last week
What a wonderful day! Exam days are starting to be my favourites.. I think the exam went really well today. That's how it felt anyways.. I have now relaxed for a few hours, caught up with fitness magazines that i've got but haven't had time to read and put away all my notes and papers that had to do with this exam! What a great feeling!
Tomorrow, me and dad are going to another city to listen to more nutrition lectures the whole day. This time it's a retired doctor who has pretty much devoted his life to these things and he really knows a lot. He spends hours every day to read about new research. I will take notes and do a summary for you here later on.
I will not write a long summary about the D-vitamin lecture because I've already wrote about vitamin D before and also because they have now posted pretty much the whole lecture online so if you understand swedish then you can see it here:

We in Sweden/Scandinavia are living far away from the equator. We live as far from it as northern Canada and Siberia where not many people live at all. This means that during the summers, we can get enough vitamin D from the sun a few hours a day. During fall and spring those hours are much less and during the winterns - we can't get any vitamin D at all from the sun because of that the sunrays that produces this in our skin is too low. This means that even if there is sunlight outside on a winter day - we still can't get any vitamin D.
We can store this vitamin and some peoples storage are empty before the winter, and for some it last until spring. This may be an explanation about the winter depressions and spring depressions people tend to have here.
Sunscreen blocks the ability to form the vitamin in the skin.
It hard to get enough vitamin D from the food. We can get around 100-400 IE from fish but if you are out in the sun for a half an hour, you get 10 000 IE. The recommendations in Sweden right now are 300 IE, which a lot of new research shows are way too low but still people (average) don't come up in this number. Personally I take a supplement on 1000 IE per day the last weeks (as the winter is approaching) and I can defently feel a big difference on how I normally feel during a normal swedish october/november.
There are many new researches being done when it comes to this vitamin and Mats Humble who had the lecture is mentioning MANY. They still need to do many more studies but it seems like this vitamin is important for example the immunsystem, against depression, prevention of cancer and many other things.
I think this is so incredibly interesting and it will be fun to see if the recommendations will change soon or not.
But hey, that's another reason for me to move to Texas right? I wouldn't have to eat vitamin D pills but I could just be outside!

Cheap tickets for my lecture free week
After my exam tomorrow, I don't have any lectures until the 14th and no mandatory lectures until the 15th.
So have I ever told you that one of my "hobbies" are to look at flight tickets?
Well... Tickets to Dallas for tomorrow right after my exam and back the 13th are cheap. Hmm...

A piece of my testimony part 1
Most, if not everyone of you knows that I'm a christian. I don't remember if I have shared any of my testimony here yet so I want to share a piece with you today.
Not many people knows my whole testimony. There has been many things in my past that has taken me years to get over and some things even took till this last summer. I don't want to share my whole testimony now, many things are too personal and I don't feel ready yet to share it but really want to share some. God has done some amazing things in my life and I can honestly say that I love him more than anything else.. It's a deep love that I can't even explain.
First I want to share a couple of bibleverses that has spoken so clear in my life and in my walk with God.
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here.
Ps 103:10-14 He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
Here is the story of how graceful and loving God has been for me. My family are christians so I was brought up in a christian home. Around the time I turned 15 years, I decided that I wanted to leave God and have nothing to do with him. I started to do pretty much everything that is against christianity. I wanted to show God (if there was one) that I "hated" him and was disappointed at him.
I went through the worse years of my life. Pretty soon I got eating disorders, which I had for about 4 years. I started cutting myself, drinking and lots of other things that I want to leave out here for now. I went into a deep depression that God later on delivered me from when I became saved.
In the last year of high school I was living with my boyfriend who was a drug addict and had right before I met him been in jail for a year because of selling drugs. I moved in with him about 2 weeks after meeting him, and about a month after that, he was cheating on me. I still stayed because I was in such a miserble state and I was convinced I didn't deserved better.
I was also sick a lot that year. My depression was very deep at this point and I also had really bad colds so I couldn't leave the bed for 3 weeks at a time and then I was "okay" for a week before it hit me again.
Finally just before christmas that year, I left the guy and moved back home again. I was really broken down at this time after 4 terrible years. Our family has an apartment attached to our house that we rent out to bibleschool students every year. This year a guy from England lived there and I started to hang out with him and his friends. I had never met christians before that I had so much fun with. I started telling people I was saved, even though I wasn't but I knew it was coming. I became saved in the summer (I was 19½) and the whole last year before that, I had started praying to God but I didn't know how to pray so I prayed the same prayer every evening which was: Help me God. over and over again....
During that summer, I went to Israel on a trip with my church. We went to the western wall and I felt God's precence and his love there more than I ever had before. I cried and cried and cried.. During that trip I became saved and decided that from now on, I will follow God for the rest of my life.
I started bibleschool a couple of months after that and that's when I got the first bibleverse (2 cor 5:17) from God and he made that verse come alive in my soul. I understood that God had forgiven me for leaving him and for all the things I had done during those years.
Life has not always been easy after that and God has done some amazing things the 5½ years I've been saved. Especially in the last 1½ years, God has worked with me and healed me alot. I will share some of that in "part 2".
Now I really have to start studying :)
