Nutrition research

The first day at the IBS center went very well. I got to be with one female doctor that was very friendly and answered all my questions. I also got two books there called Healthier without wheat and The irritable bowel syndrome solution. Both books are written by the doctor that I'm going to be with tomorrow.

Until I get some time to write down some things I've learned, I'll let you read these articles :)

Arrived in Seattle

I have now been in America for a few days and the jet lag is gone. The first days has been spent in Portland (or close to it) with an old friend from bible school who lives there. Today, the journey continued and I went to Seattle where the IBS treatment center is. I'm going there tomorrow morning to sit with one of their doctors when she has patients. It will be extremely interesting to learn more about it. Apparently the weather was really nice here last week but now it's raining. I wasn't really expecting it to be other then rain (as Seattle is known for it's rain..) but I was still hoping for good weather and therefore packed way to many shorts...

The days this far has been really fun. I have not studied hardly at all so I have a lot to catch up with there but it has been fun to do some other things. Yesterday I went to a big (compared to swedish ones..) birthday party in the park and then a graduation party in the evening. I will now be in Seattle for two night.

Updates

I am currently in Chicago right now and waiting for my flight to Portland. The flight here went so fast because I managed to fall asleep for almost 3,5 hours. There are many fun things that are going to happen on this trip so I'm very excited about it, however, I'm getting a little bit tired of travelling around and living in my suitcase. I wish I could just move to Israel and stay there :)

The planting in the garden at home is now done and I did both vegetables and herbs. Hopefully it will be a good summer now so that it all gets done before the summer is over!

For the herbs

I get so shocked every time I go to America because of their food and especially at airports. I tried to find something healthy to eat here but the only thing I could find were salads at one place. Other then that, there are only pizzas, sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers etc. I got this snack that was under a "healthy snacks"-sign, and the snacks still contained sugar (even though it also already contained several dried fruits that you would guess would be enough sweetness). It makes me really sad how little knowledge there is about what food is healthy. And obviously it's not only America but many other countries too, but if I'm honest, I haven't been to a country where I've seen it so extreme. All of this makes it a bit funny as I'm going here for a nutrition conference. It will be very interesting to see what they are saying and also to see what kind of food they will serve there. I'll write updates about it here. On monday and tuesday, I'm going to that IBS treatment center that I've written about before, so that I can sit with the doctors there and learn and on wednesday, the conference starts.

Preparing the planting!

This year I have many vegetables and herbs that I'm planning to plant in our garden. Super excited :)

One interesting thing that I found out yesterday about my upcoming trip to America is that I am going to one of the best (if not the best) IBS treatment centers in the world in Seattle to sit next to one of the best (if not the best) doctors when it comes to these things in the world. He will let me sit next to him when he has patients so that I can learn how to do it! I might also be able to sit next to one of their other doctors but that is not decided yet. My plan is to learn as much as possible in different areas so that I can start taking my own patients later on.
Next week I will also be sitting next to one of the best nutritionists in Sweden while he is taking oxidative stress tests on around 20 people. The plan is that I (my dads company) will buy one of those machines soon so that I can start taking those tests on people.

Back in Sweden..

I am now back in Sweden for one week before I head to the states. My parents had bought me a strawberry plant with a really cute flower pot as a welcome home present that I now have in my window :)

It will be nice to move out from my bags again and eat healthier, plant vegetables in the garden etc, but I miss Israel already and my love for that country has grown a lot during this trip. I can't wait to come back and I'm still hoping for moving there some day in the future.

Tomorrow will be filled with writing an exam, interpreting in church, unpacking my bags and plant vegetables and herbs in the garden. I have a lot to catch up with now before I leave again on thursday.

Updates and nutrition research

Heeey!

I don't have that many updates right now. I am almost done with my Israel trip, for this time, and I've been having such a great time here. Since I last wrote here, there has been memorial day for fallen soldiers, another one for the holocaust and Israels independence day. On sunday there's another holiday where they do fires.. Not really sure why but apparently there will be fires here and there. I am going home in a week and even though I don't want to go home, it will still be nice to go home and eat healthier, plant some herbs and vegetables for the summer and not live in a bag anymore. I am only home for about a week though before I need to pack my bag again to go to America for the nutrition conference. But before all of that, I still have a few more days to enjoy the 30+ degree weather over here ;)

And here comes some links to some interesting nutritional research! Notice that the second one about carnitine says it might give heart health benefits and another one further down (about red meat), says the opposite.. If anyone has anything to say, any comments or answers on these things, please let me know :)
