"The microflora organ"

We are now studying microbiology in school so thought of writing something about what we would call good bacterias!
We have 10 to 20 times more microbial cells in the intestine than we have eukaryotic cells (normal human cells) in the whole body! There is 800 different species and 7000 different strains of bacterias!

Here is a short list of how many grams we have of these "good bacterias" in different parts in the body:

  • Eyes - 1 gram
  • Nose - 10 grams
  • Mouth - 20 grams
  • Lungs - 20 grams
  • Vagina - 20 grams
  • Skin - 200 grams
  • Intestines - 1000-2000 grams (1-2 kg!!)
